In September 2019 I drew WNO rehearsals of Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen. I’ve been looking forward to seeing this opera for years. For me, this opera is spellbinding. I’ve always been drawn to fairy-tale, to the parallels of the animal and human worlds and the blurring of their behaviours. The opera is wonderfully beautiful with threads of playfulness, sensuality and melancholy.
The art works in the Gallery below will be exhibited at Sennedd National Assembly of Wales in Spring 2020.
The works are painted on archival cotton paper and painted with Winsor and Newton professional watercolour. When drawing live performance, I need fluidity and pure brilliant colour, this 48colour palette works well.
Watercolour allows me to work with colour in a very fluid way and this medium offers up unique qualities. I enjoy the play between transparencies and opaque colour.
