I have been invited to exhibit two sketchbooks and framed artworks for Llantarnam Grange’s exhibition The Sketchbook. The group show runs from 16.04.22 to 11.06.22
My sketchbooks are greatly valued handheld, intimate objects that transform ideas into visual explorations through the medium of drawing. I enjoy the pocket-sized concertina style sketchbooks because of their portability. The unfolding pages reveal explorations in mark making, moments in observation and memory. The concertina format has the advantage of being opened out flat as I draw so I can work at speed without stopping for drying times. This allows me to work with spontaneity, a steady rhythm and flow. When opened for display the pages form a collection of drawings that create narrative. I progress some of the ideas in the sketchbooks to larger drawings and paintings.
